Our 2020 V8 Ranch Bull of the Year designation goes to none other than +Mr. V8 146/8. We crowned him with our title in late February, when he was the two time International Champion Bull and then just a few days later, he captured an unprecedented third International title—the only bull in Brahman history to achieve this status.
“I wouldn’t say I recognized how good he was going to be at birth, but by the time he was a month old, I was finding him to check his progress regularly. I could see he excelled almost across the board and was a standout not just in his contemporaries, but across all of V8’s calf crops,” recalled Jim Williams.
The Future of V8: +Mr. V8 146/8
This son of +Mr. V8 458/7 is poised to make a tremendous impact in the V8 herd, especially when crossed with our +Mr. V8 380/6 and +Mr. V8 191/7 daughters. He brings thickness and muscle, power for days, soundness, and excellent breed character all while maintaining acceptable birthweights. His dam, +Miss V8 805/6 is one of our “super cows” at V8; her crosses with +Mr. V8 380/6 resulted in the National Champion Female, Miss V8 293/8 and her crosses with +Mr. V8 458/7 are cemented in V8 history as some of our best matings.
V8 Ranch Bulls of the Year
V8 Ranch began naming a Bull of the Year prior to the Houston show in 2016. This selection is made by our family and is what we consider an up and comer in our long line of legendary sires. We offer a limited amount of semen that is sold during our International stall party, held the Wednesday of the Houston Livestock Show Brahman Week each year. Prior to this year, the semen offering was always $1,000 a unit, but since 146 was the two time champion of Houston going in, he was priced at $25,000. Only 10 units were offered and they sold quickly.
“While he is a three-time International Champion — a feat never before accomplished, we feel the best is yet to come as his true impact will be seen in the V8 herd and throughout the Brahman breed. We already have calves on the ground that add to our confidence in him. He represents our past, our present and all the things this family works for on a day to day basis. He is the future of V8 Ranch,” remarked Jim.
