2020 National Brahman Show Results
V8 Ranch won its first national championship in 1976 in Shreveport, Louisiana and in 2020 they returned to the city for the American Brahman Breeders Association National Show. The Hungerford, Texas based ranch added the titles of National Grand Champion Female and Grand Champion Bull, plus nine division/group honors. It was an impressive performance by V8 branded individuals throughout the two day competition that was evaluated by Doug Pierce and drew close to 650 entries. +Mr. V8 380/6 “The Machine” sired both overall champions and the National Champion Get-of-Sire to continue his winning dominance.
Taking the grand champion bull title was +Mr. V8 322/8, a son of 380/6. This young sire won the senior division and already has two International division titles to his credit. His dam, Miss V8 33/8 is the latest in a long line of powerful members of the V8 Rose Cow Family and 322/8 was from her first flush. He is owned with partners, GKB Cattle.
Miss V8 203/9, the calf division winner was selected as the grand champion female. She also is sired by +Mr. V8 380/6. Her dam, Miss V8 499/7 is a member of the Miss V8 539/6 Cow Family—one of the strongest cow lines at V8 in recent years. She was the high seller in V8’s Made for Magic Sale this past summer and is owned in partnership with GKB Cattle.
V8 Genetics Excel in Group Competitions
In group competition V8 Ranch added the National Champion Get-of-Sire title on progeny from +Mr. V8 380/6. He has earned the International award in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2020, plus the National Champion Get-of Sire in 2016, 2017, and now 2020, which provides further proof that he is a “consistency machine.” Twin heifer calves from Miss V8 718/8 received the National Champion Produce of Dam title and 718/8 was named the senior champion female of the show. 718/8 is a daughter of +Mr. V8 191/7 and is from the 539/6 Cow Family.
New V8 Sires Produce Winners
This marked the first outing for progeny from Mr. V8 996/7 “Vaquero” and Mr. V8 146/8. They were very competitive in class – each producing class winners and Vaquero claimed a reserve division title. Both sires saw their progeny earn many admirers at the show. Vaquero has generated a lot of excitement this year and is currently the top selling semen sire for V8 in 2020. He is a son of JDH Sir Compian Manso and ranks in the top 9% of the breed in seven traits. Mr. V8 146/8 is the only bull in the history of the American Brahman breed to claim three International titles and is the V8 Ranch 2020 Bull of the Year. He is a son of +Mr. V8 458/7 and +Miss V8 805/6.
Other winners included:
- Miss V8 94/9, who was named National Reserve Grand Champion Female after winning the intermediate division title. She is a daughter of +Mr. V8 458/7 out of Miss V8 46/8, a 380/6 daughter from the +Miss V8 805/6 cow family.
- Miss V8 314/9, was named Reserve Calf Champion in her first outing. She is sired by Mr. V8 996/7 “Vaquero” and out of Miss V8 718/8.
- Mr. V8 562/8 “Guardian,” sired by Mr. V8 933/7 “Yeti” was the Reserve Junior Champion Bull. He is owned with GKB Cattle.
The V8 Ranch show string at the National Show, which included 33 head, is under the care and direction of Clyte Best, V8 Ranch herdsman.
