The first Sloan Williams Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Savannah Allen during the American Junior Brahman Association (AJBA) All American on July 1 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The $2,500 scholarship was made possible by Brahman breeders and friends of the Williams family, following the death of Sloan Williams, owner of V8 Ranch in December.
Allen, of Sulphur Springs, Texas is an active member of AJBA and has been involved in her family’s operation, Lindley Brahmans all her life. She was also the receipient of the V8 Ranch AJBA Outstanding Junior Breeder Award in 2020. She plans to use the scholarship to attend Texas A&M University in College Station.
The scholarship, created by the Williams family, recognizes their patriarch, Sloan Williams. He purchased the V8 herd in 1971 and over the course of five decades saw it gain national prominence and world-wide recognition. He served as president of American Brahman Breeders Association (ABBA), along with terms on the ABBA Board of Directors and countless committees. In addition, he judged in several foreign countries and judged the International Brahman Show in Houston.
The 2000 International Brahman Show and the 2019 National Brahman Show were dedicated to him for his promotion and efforts to advance the Brahman breed.
