V8 Ranch Seeks a Full-Time Show Cattle Manager on a Hero’s Journey

The registered and commercial operation is owned and operated by the Williams, a working ranch family for eight generations, V8’s focus is on linebreeding to exceptional cow families with proven bloodlines to create the strong visual appeal, performance data, and carcass data for which they are renowned.

You have:

• A strong background in animal husbandry, with show cattle experience
• Knowledge of and the ability to take exceptional care of equipment, facilities, and livestock (mechanical and electrical knowledge is a plus)
• The ability to lift 50 pounds or more, handle livestock, and be physically active, primarily outdoors, for hours at a time
• The ability to learn the personalities and idiosyncrasies of each animal and control multiple cattle at one time
• A valid Driver’s License with a good driving record (ability to drive a tractor is a plus)
• The ability to pass a pre-employment background check
• A positive, team-oriented work style and a thoughtful approach to communication.

About the Perks: 

• Base salary starts at $35K per year
• Bi-weekly pay
• Ability to earn occasional discretionary performance-based bonuses

About the Work: 

Reporting directly to the owners, you will work in collaboration with the entire team to achieve the goals and outcomes of the ranch. You will draw on your mental and physical stamina to manage the daily operations of the V8 Ranch show barn, which houses 50-70 Brahman cattle exhibited at approximately 10 shows per year. V8 Ranch also hosts two online sales per year, with 5-7 heifers per sale. Your responsibilities include, but will not be limited to: 

• Working with show and sale cattle to include daily care, feeding, watering, halter-breaking
• Maintaining facilities, equipment, supplies, and vehicles related to the show barn
• Ensuring that the show barn and surrounding spaces are welcoming and safe for visitors, clients, and staff
• Managing and scheduling show barn support staff, ensuring that all tasks are completed properly and in a timely fashion
• Exhibiting cattle at 10 major stock shows, including hiring outside help for shows
• Assisting in cattle working operations when needed
• Interacting with visitors, clients, vendors, and representing the ranch with professional, courteous conduct at all times
• Effectively coordinating and communicating with the entire ranch team in a positive manner
